After over 100 years, the doors of Fifteenth Avenue School officially closed on June 28, 2011. Students and staff were relocated to neighboring South Seventeenth Street School and Ivy Hill Elementary. The school building now houses a charter school.

NPS Film Festival -May 26, 2010

Congratulations to the Fifteenth Avenue School debate team! The team was placed in the top 25 in the recent Newark Public Schools Debate competition, where a total of 51 teams competed. Teams Charisma and Nashali received 15th place while Tashawn was placed 23rd. A special individual award went to Charisma for placing 29th out of 102 speakers. Ms. Bethea is the Debate Team Advisor.

To All Parents and Students, Premium Marketing will be at Fifteenth Avenue School on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 for picture re-take day. Students who wish to retake their picture must return their complete purchased package to the photography company. Fifteenth Avenue School 2nd Place Computer Fair Winner

Congratulations to Fifteenth Avenue School for winning second place in the grades 3-5 category at the annual Newark Public Schools computer fair. The computer fair was held at Rutgers University on December 16, 2009.

Ms. Noel's 4th grade students created a redesigned, technology-infused lesson titled Scratching Away at Cause and Effect. The students Annah, Jakiya, Alnisa, Sanayah, and Taijah used Scratch, a programming application and online web 2.0 game development tool to create their games.

Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration

Fifteenth Avenue school held its first Hispanic Heritage Month Presentation on Wednesday, October 15, 2009. Families and friends were in attendance to see students from each PreK-8 class celebrate the achievements of the Hispanic community. Students read narratives, recited poems, and performed skits and dance routines.

This event was a success; thanks to Ms. Skerrett, the World Language teacher, and all participating students and staff.

Advisory Kick-off Celebration

On Thursday, April 23, 2009 Fifteenth Avenue School's Advisory meetings began with an auditorium presentation followed by several group sessions. Small groups of grades 5 through 8 students met with their advisers and to discuss advisory expectations, how to better understand each other, and what it means to build good character.

Black History Celebration

The students and teachers were spectacular during the Black History Celebration, held on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 1:15 PM.

The performances ranged from reciting Maya Angelou and singing Sam Cooke's "A Change Gonna Come," to PowerPoint Presentations on President Barack Obama and the Devine Nine Sororities and Fraternities . The class of 2009, known for their dramatic performances gave the audience a sensational act of singing, stepping, and dancing.

The Lead Black History Committee, Ms. Robinson and Ms. Humphrey, is very appreciative of everyone who assisted in making this event a success.

Thanks to all the parents who came out to support their children; it was a pleasure seeing the large number of parents who attended this event.

T-Mobile Huddle Up

Our school received a well deserved face lift from the hard working individuals from City Year and T-Mobile. On Thursday, September 25, 2008, T-Mobile Huddle Up program was launched at our school. Hundreds of volunteers arrived at Fifteenth Avenue School, energetic and prepared to take on the challenge of enhancing our school environment and creating a positive atmosphere both in and outside of the school building.

The volunteers hand-painted canvases, created playground benches, painted the surrounding walls and ground, and best of all redesigned a classroom into a beautiful, contemporary-looking student lounge.

The Fifteenth Avenue School community truly appreciates the contribution of everyone that helped to make this a reality.
